The Ramones’ deluxe reissue campaign continues this fall with the 3CD/1LP expansion of the punk icons’ third album, Rocket to Russia, that will include two different mixes of the album, a host of unreleased studio recordings and a previously unissued live album recorded in 1977.
The multi-disc deluxe edition, as well as a single-disc release featuring the remaster of the original album, will be released Nov. 24 by Rhino Records, and can be pre-ordered now.
The deluxe set includes a remastered edition of the original album as well as a new “40th Anniversary Tracking Mix” by original engineer/mixer Ed Stasium on one disc. A second disc features a host of extras, including rough mixes, alternate takes and B-sides, many previously unreleased.
And the third disc features a previously unissued recording of the Ramones’ 1977 concert in Glasgow, Scotland. (Head over to Soundcloud to hear an unreleased live version of “Sheena is a Punk Rocker” from that concert.) Finally, the LP included in the set features the new Stasium mix. Rhino plans to release the remastered original mix on standalone vinyl next year.
Of that new mix, Stasium says in a press release announcing the reissue:
“When putting together this new Tracking Mix, I decided to include the versions of ‘I Don’t Care’ and ‘It’s A Long Way Back to Germany,’ since they were recorded during the Rocket to Russia sessions at Mediasound, and are completely different takes that have never been heard before. ‘Sheena’ has been omitted, as it was recorded in a totally different session a few months prior, in-between the Leave Home and Rocket to Russia albums.”
