For this week’s installment of Vintage Video, we turn to the very short-lived late-night talk show “Thicke of the Night,” hosted by the late Alan Thicke (future star of “Growing Pains”), and this 1984 visit by Aussie rock powerhouse Midnight Oil.
Amazingly, the band — not exactly a well-known act in America at the time — was allowed to perform three songs. As you can see below, they play three of the highlights off 1982’s 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 album: “Read About It,” “Short Memory” and “Power and the Passion.”
There’s a lot of newspaper strewn about, and Peter Garrett’s wearing some kind of weird jumpsuit.

The jumpsuit is the Read About It suit (worn in the RAI music video). 3 were created. A guy named Bruce has one and has worn it to a ton of Oils shows. Another unknown guy showed up in one but no one knows who he is. The 3rd one is MIA.
