To celebrate this month’s American release of Simple Minds’ impressive new best-of set Celebrate: The Greatest Hits+, the band’s label has hooked us up with two copies of the deluxe 3CD, 50-song edition as well as two more copies of the 2CD, 36-song edition to give away to four lucky Slicing Up Eyeballs readers.
She may be busy with her Breeders reunion and Last Splash box set, but Kim Deal’s still got time to churn out new music — the latest being the second installment of her new “Solo Series” 7-inches, a two-song single that’s now available digitally and can be pre-ordered on vinyl.
Just days after The Human League pulled out of this summer’s planned Regeneration Tour saying the group had been “promised one thing and delivered something so completely different,” another act on the bill, Erasure frontman Andy Bell, is warning fans that he might not be joining the tour, either.
The Primitives will follow up their recently released collection of early singles, demos and live tracks with an expanded double-disc reissue of 1988 debut album Lovely, which then will be followed this September by six concerts across the U.K. dedicated to celebrating the 25th anniversary of that album’s release.
This week’s new releases include brand-new studio albums from Iggy and The Stooges (‘Ready to Die’), The Blow Monkeys (‘Feels Like a New Morning’) and Big Country (‘The Journey’), plus a Melvins cover album (‘Everybody Loves Sausages’) and a Midnight Oil best-of (‘Essential Oils’).
Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” — the Sunday night “darker side of alternative” show on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave — featured music by Shriekback, Pigface, The Sound, Front 242, The Sisters of Mercy, For Against, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Creatures, Cocteau Twins and much, much more.
