After first battling cancer in 2007, Philip Chevron — who first joined The Pogues shortly after the release of the Celtic rockers’ 1984 debut Red Roses For Me — this week announced that his cancer is back, and that, this time, it’s “inoperable and will prove fatal in time, though it is at present impossible to measure life expectancy.”

For this week’s installment of Vintage Video, we present an exceedingly rare — on YouTube, anyway — ’80s-era concert from Love and Rockets, filmed at the band’s Oct. 15, 1987, headlining date at London’s Town & Country Club. The 70-minute concert took place just a month after the release of Earth Sun Moon.
Since last we checked in with The Psychedelic Furs back in March, the band has considerably expanded its summer touring plans, with at least 35 dates announced so far in a trek that will keep Richard Butler and Co. on the road in the U.S. from late May through early September.

As part of the promotion of its just-released The Singles Collection 1979-2012, post-punk icons Killing Joke have released a new part-animated, part-live action video for the band’s most recent single, “Corporate Effect,” which was released in December off last year’s studio album MMXII.
As fans of 10,000 Maniacs can attest, the band didn’t end with the departure of Natalie Merchant in 1993 — in fact, with the help of those very generous fans, the Maniacs in January released their first new album in 14 years, the Pledge Music-funded Music From the Motion Picture.
