The Church next week will release “Long Distance Century Buzzes and Fades,” a 23-years-in-the-making documentary of the band’s 1990 world tour in support of Gold Afternoon Fix that frontman Steve Kilbey assembled from more than 13 hours of raw footage he filmed with a then-new Super 8 camera.
Turns out the slimmed-down Regeneration Tour won’t be a West Coast-only trek after all: The organizers of the ’80s synthpop package tour have announced a pair of dates in New York this August, two concerts that will feature Erasure frontman Andy Bell and will feature Howard Jones.
A sparse, early demo of the Talking Heads’ 1986 single “True Stories” surfaced online over the weekend, offering fans a glimpse at the origins of the track, which was recorded during the band’s simultaneous for 1985’s Little Creatures and 1986’s True Stories, and became the breakout hit from the latter album.
Vince Clarke — he of Erasure, and former stints in Depeche Mode and Yazoo, of course — has been playing the occasional DJ set of late, and he’s got another one booked for June 22 at Velvet Underground in Toronto. Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” featured music from Peter Murphy, The Chameleons, The Lucy Show, Cabaret Voltaire, The Glove, The Essence, Killing Joke and For Against, plus a tribute to Ray Manzarek, with covers of The Doors by Alien Sex Fiend, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cult, The Mission and The Cure.
