The Pixies today debuted the third music video off the band’s recently released four-song EP-1 collection, a sparse, desert-set clip that culminates with guitarist Joey Santiago exploding into a spray of blood, seemingly answering the question posted by the song’s title: “What Goes Boom.” Check out the full clip,

Mike Peters last week addressed his departure from Big Country, thanking both the band and its fans “for a wonderful four years” without offering any reason for his split with the reunited group — which itself only has revealed to fans that “Big Country and Mike will now be parting ways” as it continues on as a four-piece.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will return to North America next summer for a second round of dates in support of the band’s current album Push the Sky Away, a just-announced trek that runs from June 16 through July 31 and will bring the group to 15 cities across the United States plus four more in Canada.

One-half of The Smiths reunited on stage in New York on Saturday night for the second time this year, as bassist Andy Rourke showed up toward the end of Johnny Marr’s gig at Webster Hall to once again perform their former band’s classic “How Soon Is Now?” and, this time, “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” as well.

Johnny Marr made a return visit to “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” last night, performing “Generate! Generate!” off the new album for broadcast, but then treating the studio audience to a gorgeous, web-only performance of The Smiths’ classic “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want.”

In what’s becoming a semi-regular occurrence, the former members of R.E.M. came within spitting distance of a full-blown reunion in Athens, Ga., tonight as Mike Mills and Bill Berry joined Peter Buck onstage at the 40 Watt Club to perform the band’s 1984 single “(Don’t Go Back To) Rockville.”

Killing Joke have launched a Pledge Music crowdsourcing campaign to fund its long-in-the-works compilation Killing Joke In Dub, a triple album of remixes that, in its deluxe incarnation, will come with a bonus 40-minute DJ mix, collecting, in the words of bassist and compiler Martin “Youth” Glover, “over four hours of dub annihilation.”

To mark the digital release this week of their first new album in a decade, the Throwing Muses are streaming another track off Purgatory/Paradise ahead of its publication as a 64-page book that will include the album on CD on Dec. 3. It’s one of 32 songs to appear on the Muses’ first album since the band’s 2003 self-titled record.
