Mark E. Smith’s iconic and ever-morphing post-punk act The Fall next month will release a six-song EP of new material on CD and 10-inch vinyl that Cherry Red Records says is intended as “a bridging point” between the band’s last album Re-Mit and the its next record, due to be released by the label in 2014.

After a few weeks off, we’re back with a new installment of what’s supposed to be the weekly Vintage Video feature, this time presenting the The Cult’s long-out-of-print, VHS-only concert film “Dreamtime: Live at the Lyceum,” filmed May 20, 1984, at the London venue and released later that year.

Tears For Fears continue to whet fans’ appetites for their upcoming 30th anniversary deluxe box set dedicated to landmark debut album The Hurting, this time posting online the band’s previously unreleased, four-song session recorded for the legendary BBC radio DJ John Peel on Sept. 1, 1982.

Virgin Records is celebrating its 40th anniversary this fall, a milestone the label will mark, in part, with a series of vinyl reissues from Public Image Ltd., including a new 180-gram picture disc of 1986’s Album, a 7-inch picture disc of “This Is Not a Love Song” and a double A-sided 12-inch singe featuring “Rise” and “Warrior.”

Wire this summer ventured to the U.S. for a brief tour in support of the band’s 13th studio album Change Becomes Us, sticking to the eastern portion of the country. Now fans on the West Coast will get a chance to see the group, as a pair of dates in Los Angeles and San Francisco have been announced.

This week’s Slicing Up Eyeballs Music Hour on Strangeways Radio featured music by 10,000 Maniacs, The Sisters of Mercy, Oingo Boingo, Mighty Lemon Drops, Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians, Talking Heads, Erasure, The Godfathers, Midge Ure, Ian McCulloch, The Cult and more.

Cherry Red Records next month will mark the 25th anniversary of Peter Murphy’s second solo album — 1988’s Love Hysteria, featuring the classic single “Indigo Eyes” — with an expanded 2CD reissue that will pair the remastered nine-track album with 13 home demos, B-sides and single edits and remixes.
