The second weekend of the Austin City Limits Music Festival is underway, and this time, the fest is providing a live webcast of many of the performances, including full sets by both Depeche Mode tonight — the final stop of the current North American leg of the ‘Delta Machine’ tour — and The Cure on Saturday night.
Steve Kilbey of The Church and The Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli — who have been writing new music together over the past year — made their live debut together Wednesday night with an intimate show in Los Angeles, where they performed selections from each other’s projects and premiered at least one new song,
That 25th anniversary edition of Peter Murphy’s sophomore album isn’t the only Bauhaus-related title on Cherry Red Records’ November release calendar: The U.K. label also is planning a 3CD box set of Daniel Ash solo material as well as an expanded 2CD reissue of David J’s solo debut Etiquette of Violence.
Mark Burgess this week announced he’ll release a brand-new four-song EP this fall under the ChameleonsVox banner — the latest incarnation of post-punk favorites The Chameleons, also featuring long-serving drummer John Lever — later this fall to coincide with a series of dates across Europe this November and December.
The Cure returned to Mexico last night for the second time this year, and while the band’s set didn’t quite match the epic length of its show on Robert Smith’s birthday in April, it did feature more surprises, including a heavy dose of The Top and the live debut of Head on the Door-era B-side “Stop Dead.”
Tonight’s Slicing Up Eyeballs Music Hour on Strangeways Radio was a Best of 1987 Edition, with music from The Cure, Nitzer Ebb, The Sisters of Mercy, Guadalcanal Diary, Oingo Boingo, The Smiths, Squeeze, The Housemartins, Echo & The Bunnymen, Midnight Oil, Dukes of Stratosphear and more.
