For the past few months, Simple Minds have been dropping hints that the band will return to the U.S. and Canada this year for the first time in more than a decade — and we’ve finally got our first confirmation of what presumably will be a lengthier tour. According to promoter Live Nation, Simple Minds will perform in New York City on Oct. 24.
The band has not announced North American dates, but Live Nation’s website includes a page listing “An Evening With Simple Minds” on Oct. 24 at New York’s Roseland Ballroom. Ticketmaster don’t yet list the show, nor any other North American dates. Tickets go on sale 12 p.m. July 19, according to Live Nation.
In May, Simple Minds announced via the group’s official Facebook page that North American concerts may be coming “sooner than you might think.”
Accompanied by a photo of frontman Jim Kerr, the message read:
USA/CANADA- SIMPLE MINDS LIVE: Did I dream it or did a “wee bird” really just tell me that after more than a whole decade of waiting we look set to return……and sooner than you might think?
Any North American concerts would be Simple Minds’ first since a 16-date trek in the summer of 2002 — including a couple dates with INXS — in support of that year’s Cry album. In March, the band posted that “hopefully” U.S. and Canadian concerts would follow recording sessions this summer.
The band just wrapped an extensive U.K. tour, and currently is scheduled to return to the road this November for a U.K. arena run with support from Ultravox.

Yawn, no derek, no mick, no new album.
They should get Tony Butler on bass.
Can’t wait! Their last two albums were fantastic!
Really, since I’ve heard Derek play in Big Country, I wonder what went wrong with simple minds why they could not keep him. Real Sad. Simple Minds was once my favorite band of all time. I still like them but I wish they would retire already, my image of the band has been ruined and gets worse as they keep releasing overpriced greatest hits over and over again.
Just announced today Simple Minds will play their acclaimed Greatest Hits+ show at the Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank, New Jersey, USA on Thursday 17th October 2013 and at Roseland Ballroom, New York, US on Thursday 24th October 2013.
