Johnny Marr may have failed to re-team with Bernard Sumner onstage as Electronic when he opened for New Order this past week in Las Vegas, but he surprised fans in San Francisco on Saturday night by pulling an even older friend up on stage: Billy Duffy of The Cult, who joined Marr and his band to rip through “I Fought the Law” — the 1958 classic by The Crickets’ Sonny Curtis popularized by the Bobby Fuller Four and The Clash — and The Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now””
As you can see from the video posted below (via concertkid2), the former Smiths guitarist — sporting a “Johnny Fuckin Marr” T-shirt — introduces his childhood friend Duffy as someone he’s “known longer than any other person” who was “playing with us for the very first time.”
“Last night In SF finally played live with old pal @Johnny_Marr ! Long time coming but worth the wait and I had a great time #manchesterboys”
