Once and future(?) Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore will release the self-titled debut album from his new band Chelsea Light Moving on March 5, Matador Records announced this morning, and will follow that release with a 20-date U.S. tour that has a conspicuous South By Southwest-sized gap in the schedule.
The new band, which began dropping MP3s and playing sporadic live dates last summer, finds Moore joined by guitarist Keith Wood, bassist Samara Lubelski and drummer John Moloney, aka “Pegasus.” The label did not reveal a tracklist, but did offer up yet another free download in the form of “Empire of Time,” which you can stream or grab below.
The band’s tour opens March 2 in Hoboken, N.J., and runs through April 7 in Boston. Moore and Co. presumably will hit SXSW during the March 11-18 gap in the touring schedule.
