Former Orange Juice frontman Edwyn Collins will follow up 2010’s acclaimed Losing Sleep with his eighth solo album, Understated, in January, the singer recently revealed — and he’ll be the subject of an upcoming documentary called “In Your Voice, In Your Heart” that chronicles his recovery from a debilitating 2005 stroke.
During a recent appearance on BBC 6 Music, Collins reported that the new album is nearing completion, and he described it as “northern soul, crossed over with punk.” The record will include 11 songs — two of which were co-written with musician Richard Hawley.
The singer also is participating in the film by directors James Hall and Ed Lovelace, which is described as: “Blurring the line between fiction and documentary we explore the world of Edwyn’s subconscious – a place inhabited by fragmented ideas and forgotten memories. Each story Edwyn tells is another piece of a shattered identity we gradually see re-emerging in front of us.”
It’s not clear when the film is coming out, but you can watch a Collins-narrated trailer here.
