Former Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson will take a break from his gigs with Guns N’ Roses and Soul Asylum to embark on a short solo tour this spring, playing six gigs in four days at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, next month before hitting the East Coast for a handful of concerts in mid-April.
Following a Feb. 29 gig in Philadelphia, Stinson will open his Texas run March 14 with a show in Dallas, followed by the half-dozen appearances at the annual SXSW extravaganza, including an appearance at Alejandro Escovedo’s traditional festival-ending jam at the Continental Club. Then he heads east for shows in New York, Massachusetts, Virginia and Pennsylvania in April.
Stinson last year released One Man Mutiny, the follow-up to 2004 solo debut Village Gorilla Head.
