Well, we beat the terrible twos: Slicing Up Eyeballs turns 3 today, having launched so very inauspiciously on Feb. 20, 2009, with a simple mission to provide “the latest info on new albums, reissues, upcoming reunions and tour dates.” More than 2,000 posts later, this site has become so much more than that, with a weekly show on Strangeways Radio, a monthly mixtape series, tons of great contests, MP3 downloads and much more.
What started as a late-night labor of love — I figured I’d write about the music I know and love, and see if anybody else cared — has turned into a major undertaking, with the site pulling in 2.36 million visits and 3.8 million pageviews over the past three years. Guess people do care.
Along the way, I’ve had the chance to guest-host “Dark Wave” on Sirius XM Satellite Radio, present a concert by The Godfathers in New York City and interview members of Joy Division, Bauhaus, Pixies, Erasure, Heaven 17 and The Dream Syndicate.
But I’m also keenly aware than any success I’ve had with Slicing Up Eyeballs is due entirely to you, the readers. So I’d like to offer a heartfelt thanks to every one of you who stops by the site each day, subscribes via e-mail or RSS, or follows along on Facebook, Twitter or other social media outlets. Aided by a small, but, thankfully, growing, slice of advertising revenue (although I won’t be quitting the day job any time soon), this site is a one-man operation and, for the time being, will remain that way — so all of your support and appreciation is greatly appreciated.
