It’s Madchester all over again as the Happy Mondays will reunite their original lineup this spring for an 11-date tour of the U.K. and Ireland — and backing singer Rowetta is even suggesting the group would love the chance to open for The Stone Roses at that band’s massive Manchester reunion gigs this summer.
According to the NME, the Mondays — with Paul Ryder and several other original members back on board with Shuan Ryder and Co. — will open their tour May 3 in Newcastle and play through May 18 in Nottingham, with two shows in London and one gig in Dublin (see full dates below).
Shaun Ryders tells the NME: “We all met up last week and some of the lads haven’t seen each other in over 10, 15 years. It’s as if we’ve never been apart – so good to all be in the same room again. We can’t wait now to get on tour and play the songs that made us famous.”
