The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this morning announced its Class of 2012, a list that does not include first-time nominees The Cure, but does feature ’80s college-rock vets Red Hot Chili Peppers plus Beastie Boys, Guns N’ Roses, Donovan, Laura Nyro and a combination of The Faces and The Small Faces.
Also making the cut: blues guitarist Freddie King, late promoter Don Kirshner, and recording engineers/producers Tom Dowd, Glyn Johns and Cosimo Matassa, who will be honored for musical excellence. Nominees that failed to get in this year, in addition to The Cure, include Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Eric B. and Rakim.
The induction ceremony will take place on April 14 in Cleveland and air on HBO in early May.

the beastie boys? …
What a shame…
From the Play Out video
Random guy: Hey look, a rock and roll band!
Robert Smith: He’s wrong
What a joke….
I don’t think Robert gives a rat’s a!@#$ anyway ..After seeing them in New York THE CURE remains true. The hall of fame doesn’t make them any better or worse.I love them just where they are …..
Beastie Boys have a few songs with guitars, but as a rock band I’d say The Cure were far more qualified. Oh well… nothing to worry about :)
bull crap!!!!
a lot of people dont know (or remember) that the beastie boys were a very good punk band before crossing over to mainstream listen to any entire album. what wasnt singled out, usually jams good for them.
