RELEASE: In a Special Place: Piano Demos for ‘This Is the Sea’
BACKSTORY: Bandleader Mike Scott this week releases in the U.K. — the U.S. edition follows in a month — an album’s worth of piano and vocal demos recorded for his the 1985 record This Is The Sea. The early takes include “Don’t Bang the Drum,” “The Whole of the Moon,” “Be My Enemy” and more (see full tracklist here).

RELEASE: The Marshall Suite
BACKSTORY: The 1999 album from Mark E. Smith and Co. this week receives, in the U.K., a 3CD reissue from Cherry Red. The first disc features the original 14-track album, while the second includes 13 single mixes, B-sides and Peel session recordings, and the third features an eight-song April 1999 live set broadcast on XFM radio.

RELEASE: Rocking the Royals: Live 1985
BACKSTORY: The Aussie rockers have released their 1985 “Rocking the Royals” performance — a concert staged for Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana — as an 11-song digital album, with a bonus “commentary” track thrown in. Much of the band’s Listen Like Thieves-era performance already had been released (see full tracklist here).

BACKSTORY: The post-punk/New Wave favorites this week reissue their 30-year-old sophomore album on 180-gram audiophile vinyl through the Original Recordings Group. The 10-track album is home to cuts such as “Dumb Waiters,” “I Wanna Sleep With You” and the original, pre-John Hughes “Pretty in Pink.”
