As hinted at last summer, classic goth-rock act The Mission will reunite next year for a special 25th anniversary concert in London — although it’s not yet known whether this will lead to the series of U.K. and European concerts originally envisioned by bandleader Wayne Hussey.
For the Oct. 22 concert at London’s O2 Academy Brixton, Hussey has enlisted original members Simon Hinkler (guitar) and Craig Adams (bass). Last summer, when Hussey first suggested the reunion, he wrote, “I have seen and spoken with (original drummer) Mick Brown and, unfortunately, I have to tell you that Mick won’t be performing with us.”
The London concert will be the first by The Mission since the band’s string of album-spanning farewell gigs in London in February and March 2008. Since then, Hussey has released a solo album, Bare, and toured on his own. Earlier this year, he released a posthumous Mission compilation, Dum Dum Bullet, featuring previously unreleased demos, new songs left over from the God Is a Bullet sessions.
Last summer, Hussey broached the reunion idea onstage, then posted a note in the forum on the Mission’s official site asking for fan input on possible anniversary shows. At the time, Hussey wrote that he was considering two U.K shows (in London and Leeds), plus “some select cities in continental Europe,” possibly next September.
There’s a presale beginning Wednesday for the London show.

They are also confirmed for Sinner’s Day 2011 in Belgium. I believe it is on the 30th October 2011.
Saw them in 1987 in Dallas, TX. Would be a blast to see this show.
all the good shows happen in Europe…when will the US get a turn? i don’t recall the last time The Mission played here, and i’ve never seen them (although i did see Wayne Hussey on his solo acoustic tour in September ’08). it would be really great if they extended those “select cities in continental Europe” to a few US cities as well.
