Guitar god J Mascis will unplug this spring — or, as Dinosaur Jr bandmate Lou Barlow recently put it, “pretend he’s a peace loving acoustic guy” — for a just-announced 22-date North American tour in support of his forthcoming first-ever solo studio album Several Shades of Why.
The trek, which comes a month after Barlow’s own Sebadoh tour, opens March 10 in Ithaca, N.Y., and wraps up May 7 in San Diego, with several breaks in between to space out those shows (see full dates below). Mascis will release his new album March 15 on Sub Pop; that’s the record cover above for the first time.
To help promote the release — which features guest turns by Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene, Kurt Vile and Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell, among others — Sub Pop put out a 23-second interview clip, which you can see below. It’s vintage Mascis. Plus, you can still grab a free MP3 of album track “Not Enough” right here.
