Less than a week after using its annual Christmas single to give fans a first taste of its new music, R.E.M. today released a free MP3 of “Discoverer,” the opening track off its new album Collapse Into Now — which will be released March 7 in the U.K. and March 8 in the U.S. via Warner Bros.
You can download the guitar-heavy rocker in exchange for an e-mail address via the widget below, or watch the “official lyric video” the band posted on YouTube, also below.
The Jacknife Lee-produced album — the follow-up to 2008’s Accelerate — features a number of high-profile collaborations: “It Happened Today” features Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder on vocals; “Alligator Aviator Autopilot Antimatter” has electro artist Peaches on vocals and Patti Smith sideman Lenny Kaye on guitar; and the closing track, “Blue,” includes vocals from Smith, who previously sang on “E-Bow the Letter.”
