My Bloody Valentine’s ‘Loveless,’ ‘Isn’t Anything’ reissues finally due out in January

My Bloody Valentine, circa 1988

The long-delayed CD reissues of My Bloody Valentine’s two classic studio albums — both newly remastered by the band’s reclusive aural mastermind, Kevin Shields — are now scheduled to be released in the U.K. in early January. Barring any further delays, of course.

Originally due out in June 2008, the remastered versions of 1988’s Isn’t Anything and 1991’s shoegaze landmark Loveless repeatedly have been delayed, in part, supposedly, due to the notoriously slow Shields’ inability to deliver the albums’ new liner notes on time. Now, the two discs are set to be reissued in new digipack editions Jan. 4, according to online retailers Amazon.co.uk and CDWow.us.

Both albums have been remastered by Shields, while the new Loveless comes with a second disc featuring a previously unreleased version of that album’s famed wall of guitars “mastered from the original analog tapes,” according to the original Sony press release announcing the reissues. Unfortunately, aside from that analog remaster, there’s no bonus material to speak of, even though MBV issued a number of EPs — particularly those on Creation Records — that could have been compiled.

Shields reactivated My Bloody Valentine in 2007, and announced he was nearing completion of the post-Loveless album he started in 1996. In 2008, MBV began playing live again, headlining festivals and playing concerts in Europe and the U.S., although there’s been no concrete evidence of a forthcoming album.

The band’s only currently scheduled live appearance is next weekend at the All Tomorrow’s Parties Nightmare Before Christmas festival it is curating in Minehead, England.

  1. Yes please. All fingers crossed that this actually happens this time.

  2. Why the **** is there a remaster for this album?? I’ve heard it and wtf is the second cd meant to be? a very very slightly tinnier version wtf are they bringing this out for? oh yeah, thats right – money!! jesus!! :(

  3. Alex…youre obviously not a fan of the record….quite frankly, its one of THE best albums of the 90s..period. As for being tinny, its actually one of the heaviest albums around, a blissful match of twisted distortion and heavenly vocals…and personally, i cant wait to hear these re issues as im sure this will remove any ‘tinny’ sound it may have….bottom line is its a classic album which deserves this kind of treatment!
