After collaborating on a full-album cover of Yanni’s Live at the Acropolis last summer, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore has now tapped Beck to produce his third solo album, titled Benediction and due out in 2011 on Matador Records.
This week, Moore told the Philadelphia Weekly (via TwentyFourBit) that he recorded the follow-up to 2007’s Trees Outside the Academy at Beck’s Southern California home, and that “Beck sings and plays a little bit on it.” The record also will feature violinist Samara Lubelski, who played on Trees, and harpist Mary Lattimore, who, Moore said, “both play on it quite extensively and very, very beautifully. Beck really put them through the paces.”
As for Sonic Youth, Moore said that, in 2011, aside from New Year’s gigs in London and February dates in Chile, “we’re laying low and preparing to record some secret sides.”
