It’s Peter Buck’s birthday today — he’s 54 — and we celebrate the venerable R.E.M. guitarist with one of the band’s greatest songs, featuring one of Buck’s finest solos. Those who saw the Monster tour in 1995 no doubt remembers that “Country Feedback,” off 1991’s not-toured Out of Time, was the set’s unmistakable highlight, capped off each night with a mesmerizing solo from Buck — a guitarist not generally prone to long turns in the spotlight. The version above was filmed in Atlanta toward the end of the tour and is taken from the “Road Movie” DVD.

I spy Bill Berry playing the bass instead of the drums, too. I miss him.
