The ever-enigmatic Björk — the Icelandic singer perhaps better known to the masses for her choice in awards show couture than her music — turns 45 today, and to mark the occasion, we go back to the beginning: Here’s a clip of her late-’80s/early-’90s band The Sugarcubes performing “Motorcrash” at London’s Town & Country Club in 1987; the following year, the single, off debut album Life’s Too Good, would serve as the band’s breakthrough to U.S. modern-rock radio.
I was there! I believe this was when they appeared at the bottom of the bill with The Dave Howard Singers and Swans. Either that or their headliner – I saw them twice at T & C anyways.
Wouldn’t “Birthday” have been a better choice?
