Talking Heads spinoff Tom Tom Club sees its sophomore album Close to the Bone released on CD for the first time ever next week as part of an expanded reissue of its 1981 self-titled debut.
The Tom Tom Club: Deluxe Edition 2CD set, due out Tuesday, features remastered versions of the group’s self-titled album and 1983’s Close to the Bone, plus nine bonus remixes (full tracklist below).
The digital version also comes with an exclusive bonus track: a new remix of “Wordy Rappinghood” by Kid Ginseng.
Founded by the Heads’ rhythm section, Tina Weymouth and husband Chris Frantz, in 1980, the Tom Tom Club initially was side project for the couple, but turned into their main concern following the dissolution of the Talking Heads.
Although the Tom Tom Club scored big with its first dance-influenced album (particularly with the hit singles “Genius of Love” and “Wordy Rappinghood”), the couple never replicated that success — as indicated by the fact their record label never bothered issuing Close to the Bone on CD until now.
