With its new album delayed until fall, landmark postpunk act Killing Joke this week announced it will issue In Excelsis, an EP culled from the same sessions, later this month — and released “Endgame,” a free MP3 that marks the first new music from the band’s original lineup since 1982’s Revelations.
Killing Joke also unveiled rescheduled dates for its 30th anniversary tour.
In March, the band’s reunited original lineup — singer Jaz Coleman, guitarist Kevin “Geordie” Walker, bassist Martin “Youth” Glover and drummer Paul Ferguson — pushed back the release of its new album, XIII: Feast of Fools, from April until Sept. 6, and delayed its tour, which was to have begun April 15 in the U.K., until later this year.
Now, to tide fans over, the band has announced it will release In Excelsis on June 21 and is offering a free download of the track “Endgame” (see below); the EP features songs from the XIII: Feast of Fools sessions, according to the band’s site, “but it has yet to be decided whether they will feature in the final tracklisting.”
The EP will be available in three formats: as a double colored vinyl 10-inch with four tracks exclusively available through the U.K.’s What Records, as a CD single with a bonus fifth track, and as an iTunes download with a bonus film called “Urban Primitive,” created by Youth in 2004 and soundtracked by an exclusive track (see full tracklist below).
The band also has announced new dates for its 30th anniversary tour, which now starts Sept. 29 in Paris, with a dozen European dates running through Oct. 16 in London. The trek resumes Dec. 3 in New York City, with 12 shows in North America, culminating Dec. 18 in Los Angeles (see full tour dates below).
On MySpace, Coleman writes, “I take this opportunity to congratulate my colleagues for creating our most vital recording to date and feel thrilled and privileged to tour with the original lineup at this point in time, all things considered.”
