Sure, we featured The Cure in a Vintage Video installment just a couple weeks ago — but today is Robert Smith’s 51st birthday, and we couldn’t help but mark the occasion with something special. Namely a complete playlist of the band’s long-out-of-print 1987 concert film “The Cure in Orange,” courtesy of YouTube user burtoncbell1 (who also subtitled the whole thing, in case you don’t speak Robert).
Recorded Aug. 9 and 10, 1986, at the Theatre Antique d’Orange in the French countryside, the entire 23-song, Head on the Door-era set — plus intro and outro, the former of which captures Simon Gallup’s famous de-wigging of the newly shorn Smith — is presented in the playlist above (also see complete tracklist below).
Following its theatrical run, “The Cure in Orange” — directed by Tim Pope — was released only on VHS and laser disc. Smith announced last October that, at long last, the film will be released on DVD in 2010. No further details have been announced, but until then, if you’ve never seen it, or wore out that VHS tape years ago, here it is.

A great show ! Long over due on DVD !
It was also released on Video CD; I’ve got it sitting right in front of me as I type.
Thanks Slicingeyeballs for celebrating his birthday. I had a round of beers last night and played nothing but Cure. :D In Orange is a great concert.
No “Sweet Talking Guy” during the credits, so I guess this is a dub of the laserdisc?
awesome .. Happy Birthday RSX. thanks slicingupeyeballs :)
A great moment!! Did you recognize me ? Was in the audience, just left of the FoH :)))
I bought this on VHS in 1989, when I was 14. Still my favourite concert footage ever!
