Last weekend, The Godfathers played their third consecutive St. Valentine’s Day Massacre concert since reuniting in 2008, this year returning to London — more specifically, the University of London Union — after bringing their traditional Feb. 14 concert to Chicago for its U.S. debut in 2009.
This year, however, fans were treated to something special: The reactivated band debuted its first new songs — “I Can’t Sleep Tonight” and “Back Into the Future” — in 15 years. The tunes are among the tracks the Godfathers have been working on for the follow-up to 1995’s Afterlife, due out this year in time to mark the band’s 25th anniversary.
Above is video of “I Can’t Sleep Tonight” (a clip of “Back Into the Future” hasn’t yet surfaced), and below are several more songs from last Sunday’s concert, which saw the band tearing through its back catalog and breaking out covers by The Creation and the Coyne brothers’ pre-Godfathers band The Sid Presley Experience (whose guitarist Del Bartle is now a member of the Godfathers).
