Jane’s Addiction yesterday canceled the Australian leg of its reunion tour after drummer Stephen Perkins was hospitalized with an elbow infection, although the band is still planning to keep its Aug. 7 slot at Lollapalooza.
According to the band’s publicist, Perkins was admitted to Infectious Disease Ward at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after the band returned from the European leg of its tour with Nine Inch Nails. Perkins — who experienced severe swelling and pain in his elbow — is expected to stay there for several days “for further diagnosis and observation while antibiotic treatment continues,” according to the band.
The group — touring with its original lineup for the first time in 17 years — had been scheduled to start a six-date Australian trek Saturday.
“I know how excited we were to come play in Australia, and how long the fans there have waited for this,” frontman Perry Farrell said in a statement. “I want everyone Down Under to know that we will come back as soon as we can.”
