In stores this week: Siouxsie and the Banshees, Killing Joke box sets

Siouxsie and the Banshees, 'At the BBC'

Record Rack: A weekly round-up of the pertinent new releases hitting stores this Tuesday:

ARTIST: Siouxsie and the Banshees
RELEASE: At the BBC
BACKSTORY: This 3CD/1DVD box set collects 84 tracks — Peel sessions, live concert recordings, TV performances — recorded between 1977 and 1991. It also features a 30-page hard-bound book with an introduction by Siouxsie Sioux herself, plus liner notes.

ARTIST: Elvis Costello
RELEASE: Secret, Profane & Sugarcane
BACKSTORY: The veteran’s twangy new studio album — recorded in Nashville  with T Bone Burnett — was supposed to come out on vinyl this week in advance of the June 2 release date for the CD. But there are conflicting reports that the LP edition has been canceled. That would be too bad, since the vinyl was to carry two extra tracks, according to Costello’s Web site: “an arrangement of Lou Reed’s ‘Femme Fatale’ and Costello’s sequel to the old Appalachian murder ballad, ‘Omie Wise,’ entitled, ‘What Lewis Did Last.’”

ARTIST: Killing Joke
RELEASE: The Gathering 2008
BACKSTORY: This limited-edition, 4CD box set present live, overdub-free recordings of the reunited band’s two 2008 London concerts — the first by the group’s original lineup since 1982. The set also features one newly recorded track, “Time Wave.”

ARTIST: Ministry
RELEASE: “Adios… Puta Madres: Ministry Final World Tour”
BACKSTORY: The industrial juggernaut says goodbye with a 2DVD package that features a live concert from its final tour, plus a behind-the-scenes documentary.
