Depeche Mode announces U.S. ‘Sounds of the Universe’ tour dates

Depeche Mode

Electro pioneers Depeche Mode this week unfurled the dates and cities — but not the venues — for the North American leg of its grandiosely named Tour of the Universe.

The trek is in support of DM’s forthcoming album, Sounds of the Universe, which arrives on these shores April 21.

The 22-date tour kicks off July 24 in Toronto. According to the band’s Web site, tickets begin going on sale in some markets March 13.

Frontman Dave Gahan told Spin.com that photographer/filmmaker and longtime DM associate Anton Corbijn is working on the tour’s staging: “Some of the drawings I’ve seen Anton and our stage crew working on, there’s going to be a lot of light and shade and mood.”

The band also announced details of a special CD/DVD edition of the new album, plus an even more elaborate “Deluxe Box Set” that will include demos of each song on the record, remixes, three films and two books. No word yet on how much that hefty package will set you back.
