Great episode tonight!
“Insanity” by Oingo Boingo. They may not seem like a “dark wave” band, but trust me on this one particular song.
Niiiice rundown last night! You hit some of my faves: Shriekback, Nitzer Ebb, Clan of Xymox.
It’d be awesome to hear some Brendan Perry next week. Perhaps either “Voyage of Bran” or “Medusa” (both found on Eye of the Hunter), as long as you don’t think they’re too sleepy for the show.
Matt – I have another request. It’s not from the first wave of 70’s or 80’s dark wave , but from the 90’s instead
One of my favorite Cure b-sides
“It Used To Be Me”, the b-side to their horrible “13th” single.
If you could – never heard it on any radio station ever, could be a world premier (?!)
Thanks,
Constantine from Toronto
I particularly liked the Shriekback track so early on; legit one of my favorite songs.
I listen to this program every Monday morning at work; it starts the week off on a great note.
I would like to make a request: “Assegai” by Theatre of Hate.
Thanks!
Matt,
Thanks for spinning the Chris and Cosey track. Much appreciated.
Best three hours of each week is this show.
Cheers!
Folk Devils -Excellent how about ‘Killer in the Rain’ by King Blank
Great set of songs last night, Matt!
Here are a couple of requests for a potential Dark Wave in the near future –
Depeche Mode – Black Celebration
The Gun Club – A Devil in the Woods
Thanks as always!
A few suggestions:
New Dawn Fades – Joy Division
Lead a Normal Life – Peter Gabriel
Black Light Trap – Shriekback
Asleep – The Smiths
Doubleplusgood – Eurythmics
Homesick – The Cure
Precious – Depeche Mode
“New Dawn Fades” is an excellent choice! Incredibly powerful & gut wrenchingly painful song.
Great show!
Requesting “Yakutska” by Click Click
Thanks!
Great show Matt!
Great show. Loved the Folk Devils and Pink Turns Blue songs
Hi Matt – Some suggestions for next week, or upcoming weeks :
The The – The Nature of Virtue (from cassette version of Soul Mining)
Cabaret Voltaire – War of Nerves
Jazz Butcher – Hard
And Also the Trees – Impulse of Man
GODFLESH!!!!!!!!!
Good episode.
This week’s Darkness Award:
Shriekback, “My Spine (Is the Bass Line)”
Request for future show:
Revolting Cocks, “At the Top”
Hi Matt
Thanks for another great show! How about “Hamburger Lady” by Throbbing Gristle. Still makes me shudder.
Thanks a lot for playing my Godflesh request! Terrific show as always!
Please play “Halber Mensch” by Einsturzende Neubauten. Thank you!
I really enjoyed this past Sunday’s show. I’m usually in bed when you broadcast but had to drive to New Hampshire for a Snoop Dogg show..
I would love to hear TEARS by The Chameleons UK.
Hello Matt-
May I request, “A Means To An End” by Joy Division from the Closer album for this Sunday’s show (July 21st)? Monday July 15th would have been Ian’s 63rd birthday.
Thanks,
Misha
Great show as always.
No suggestions for this Sunday. Other listeners are giving some good picks.
Thanks
I know this is late, but I would like to request The Cure’s Like Cockatoo’s (the torn down mix) for Stephanie for her birthday….I love that girl
Great show overall and an especially great playlist for this week- Coil, Godflesh, Chris & Cosey, Birthday Party and on and on! Thanks for playing so much great music that would otherwise never get played on 1st Wave. I have discovered and re-discovered so many bands thanks to your show. Darkwave is by far the best thing on SiriusXM.
My only request for now is less music that I feel doesn’t really fit the Darkwave mold – Smiths/Morrissey, The Mission, The Cult, even Depeche Mode – I know it’s subjective, but there is so much great dark industrial, goth and post-punk out there that fits the show better and that stuff gets it’s share of play on regular 1st Wave programming. Thanks and keep digging up those obscure gems that even an aging “dark music” geek like myself has never heard before!
I don’t think they play this on regular 1st Wave, so how about “Temple of Love” by The Sisters of Mercy ft. Ofra Haza?
