The John Darnielle-led Mountain Goats earlier this year released a concept album called Goths that was preceded by the first single “Andrew Eldritch is Moving Back to Leeds,” a notably un-gothlike song about the lead singer of The Sisters of Mercy. On tour in support of that record, the band this week went all-in, debuting a cover of the Sisters’ 1987 classic “Lucretia My Reflection”
Thanks to the invaluable NYCTaper, you can listen to that full performance, an acoustic-based take — with indie all-star drummer Jon Wurster playing the role of Doktor Avalanche — that was recorded Sunday night at Brooklyn Steel in New York City. The cover, naturally, led into “Andrew Eldritch is Moving Back to Leeds.”
NYCTaper also has the the full show, if you’re looking for more Mountain Goats action.
Listen to “Lucretia” below.
