As promised, Midnight Oil’s much-anticipated Great Circle 2017 World Tour will open in Australia, with the band having announced what it calls a “back to basics pub gig” in Sydney on April 13 — which means the months-long tour will now begin and end in Australia’s largest city.
The kick-off show is slated for Selina’s at the Coogee Bay Hotel, a venue with a capacity between 1,800 and 2,000 people, and tickets will be sold through a lottery system.
Here are the details:
Both of Midnight Oil’s November concerts at The Domain are currently sold out so demand will be extremely high for this legendary beachside gig where the band cut its teeth in the very early 1980’s. Tickets will therefore be sold via a ballot system to make the process as fair as possible, and to further frustrate scalpers.
If you are interested in coming to this gig you first have to register your interest here between 8am AEDT Thursday 30 March and 8am AEST on Monday 3 April. You can only register for the ballot once — multiple entries will be disqualified. Successful applicants will then be selected by a completely random electronic process so every entrant has an equal chance of success.
Ticketek will email all successful applicants on Tuesday April 4 with instructions on how to purchase within the nominated sales period. All tickets will be General Admission and will cost $99.90 plus a one-off service and handling fee of $5.95 per transaction. Sales will then open for successful applicants only on Tuesday April 4 at 12noon AEST and close on Friday April 7 at 12noon AEST.
Register to buy tickets at Ticketek.
After the Sydney tour launch, the band heads to Brazil for dates later in April and into May, then North America, Europe and the U.K., New Zealand and back to Australia.
