With Johnny Marr’s North American tour in support of the just-released Playland now entering its second half, the ex-Smiths guitarist has begun spicing up his encore set — already featuring some choice classics from his former band’s catalog, and, often, Iggy Pop’s “Lust For Life” — with a cover of Depeche Mode’s 1993 guitar rocker “I Feel You.”
Check out some quality audience-shot footage of the DM cover from last night’s gig in Edmonton, Canada, courtesy of Gabriel Born — plus the original Songs of Faith and Devotion-era video.

I might dig this more than the original.
I like that song, I always have. Though I’d never seen that DM video before, and now that I have, I hope I can forget about it forever. Awful. Is Martin Gore wearing sweatpants??
Yeah ok. Original waaaaay better.
Johnny Marr is getting more comfortable with being the lead singer and it is great. Never would I have thought of him doing a cover of Depeche Mode and doing a great job at it too. The dance moves was not something I would have seen Marr do a few years ago.
Johnny Marr has good taste in music.
Richard is right, his voice had grown. As for Dave S–wow, calm down–this is a phone (deep) cut from a live show. Aren’t you happy that he shares your love–no–you troll.
I love this! I am a huge DM fan,and Jonny Marr gave this song the justice, and (suprising) sexiness it warrarnts. Marr always brings his A-game on the guitar; but here he really flexed his front man chops. I think Dave Gahan would be very impressed.
