Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark today premiered “Metroland,” the first official single off the band’s upcoming album English Electric following a pair of Kraftwerk-esque teasers. The 7½-minute track — which you can stream below — will be released March 25, ahead of the April 9 release of the full album.

Not bad. A little simple…but a good tune. I was hoping for something more ambitious or experimental.
A mix of classic OMD sounds. I am very excited about getting my hands on the new album when it arrives.
this is very reminiscent on their early work.
Very nice.
Hmmm….its a little ‘nothing’ in honesty…..by that i mean there is no progression here – eg, Bunker Soldiers, ahead of its time, this, retro at best and not in a good way. some 80’s outfits should have quit a long time ago, sorry guys – you were no longer relevant after Dazzleships….
Really cool!
OMD are just bleeding nostalgia, not innovating like they were in the (very) early 80s. Sad.
Bleeding nostalgia is NOT a bad thing. I pushed play on the stream, sat and listed for a bit, and found myself watching the clock to see when it time to leave for high-school… :) OMD, thank you for staying true to the sound you invented :)
for clarification..I graduated in 1987 ;) lol
Do they still think its 1981? Pathetic.
God, there’s some sourpusses on here. I think it’s a beautiful track, with a nice nod to Kraftwerk’s Europe Endless. Along with Ultravox, OMD are one of the few classic ’80s synth bands who aren’t afraid to embrace the sounds that made them great, instead of jumping on current trends and trying to score pointless chart hits. They’re still making great music, and I can’t wait for the album.
Jeb – I completely agree with you. Well said. Just got my ticket for their tour in July.
I love it!
It is important, I think, that those bands we used to enjoy, continue to produce the sort of music they know their fans like and that they enjoy making. I for one don’t want OMD to sound like anything other than OMD. This track is pure OMD.
looking forward to the album!

This is OMD !! They are back. I didn’t care for their last album and i am a big fan of OMD. Their Crush tour was my first live concert performance i have ever seen and I was sold. This sound is amazing..its what is missing in today’s music. Thanks so much for not forgetting your core fans and giving us this type of music again in our lives. Hope you visit Los Angeles soon !! All the best.
I’m listening to my CD right now and this song sure doesn’t sound like 7:30. That’s all I can say. But it is two albums in a row with a long song leaning on “Europe Endless!” What can I say? It’s my favorite Kraftwerk song, too. I have no problem with this, though I think I preferred “The Right Side.”
