Reps for Morrissey, Johnny Marr shoot down rumors of The Smiths reunion — again

In a completely expected turn of events, representatives for both Morrissey and Johnny Marr reportedly have each denied the rumors of a reunion by The Smiths that once again circulated online this week following Moz’s claim that Coachella was willing to go entirely meat-free in exchange for a headlining performance by the legendary band.

The NME this morning reported that Joe Moss, Marr’s manager, denied the rumors entirely: “It isn’t happening. We are fully focused on preparing Johnny’s new album for release and booking shows for 2013.”  That follows a report by HitFix.com that Morrissey’s rep responded to their inquires with a vehement claim of, “The Smiths will NEVER get back together.”

The latest reunion rumors picked up steam Monday following the spread of Morrissey’s comments about Coachella in an Australian interview. Then, a U.K. gossip site claimed that the reunion was a done deal, with four shows booked including a possible slot at Glastonbury.

  1. It’s not The Smiths with out Rourke and Joyce. It’s just Mozzer and Marr. Besides, after all the law suits, I really don’t see them back together period. And even if they did, I’m not sure I’d be for it. I saw them in ’85 and I’d be very happy for that to be the last memory.

This reunion will happen as soon as Guns N Roses reforms with all its members, Led Zeppelin reforms and tours, etc etc. There’s not enough money in the world to make Morrissey ever play with Marr. And yes, who really wants to see one half of the Smiths play?

  3. What is the point of a reunion for The Smiths? They haven’t played a show since 1986, they haven’t put out studio music since the 80’s.. I mean, it’s just silly. All it would be is a money grab. The Smiths are not relevant in 2012.
