X co-founders John Doe and Exene Cervenka next week will officially release a formerly tour-only CD called Singing and Playing that features seven acoustic tracks recorded in 2010 plus a live version of the band’s classic “See How We Are” the duo recorded last year (that track also appears as one of the new studio cuts).
Due out April 10 via California-based Moonlight Graham Records, the set includes a new version of Cervenka solo staple “The Sound of Coming Down” plus the duo’s acoustic version of “It Just Dawned On Me,” which they originally recorded with The Sadies. Doe and Cervenka will play an album-release show at 6 p.m. on that date at Amoeba Music in San Francisco.
The release comes just a month before X heads out on a 35th anniversary tour of the West Coat, with seven dates beginning May 4 in Solana Beach, Calif., and wrapping up May 12 in Seattle. The band will play two of those shows, in Los Angeles and Nipomo, Calif., with Los Lobos.
