Bob Mould will perform Sugar’s 1992 debut Copper Blue in its entirety for the first time ever at San Francisco’s Noise Pop festival next month, marking the 20th anniversary of both the album and the music fest in what is expected to be the first of a “very limited” number of live performances of the record this year.
Festival organizers yesterday announced that Mould and his band — Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster and Jason Narducy, formerly of Telekinesis, on bass — will play Copper Blue on Feb. 24 at San Francisco’s tiny Bottom of the Hill club. Noise Pop also announced that The Flaming Lips will perform 1999’s The Soft Bulletin on Feb. 21 at Bimbo’s 365 Club during the festival.
In November, Mould announced that he would celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Sugar debut this year by performing it at a “very limited” number of concerts. No word yet on any other shows, but a post on Mould’s Facebook page advises fans to “stay tuned for more information on COPPER BLUE and Bob’s touring plans for 2012.”
Tickets for Mould’s Noise Pop performance are $20 and go on sale Sunday. For more information, visit noisepop.com/2012.
