Dave’s vocals are great but the instrumentation is awful. Sounds like it was created in Martin’s basement.
Would have been great to return to a SOFAD sound for this.
I think the music works just fine.
DM does OK, NIN sounds in good form but boy do the Killers suck!
Check Gavin Friday’s take on The Fly – now that’s how you make a song your own! http://blog.gavinfriday.com/song-the-fly-by-gavin-friday-ahk-toong-bay-bi
I have to say I’m actually very impressed by the covers, it must be difficult to put you own stamp on something like these songs but Gavin Friday hits the nail, absolutely fantastic and bizzarly I think the Frays version is v good as is Snow Patrolsand Jack White’s. 1 straight version and 2 very good reimaginimgs
“Sounds like it was created in Martin’s basement.”
Instrumentation? So the computer in his basement is shoddier than the computer in a studio? 1984 is dead on.
How can you RE-make an EXCELLENT album? Just listen to the passion EACH of the artists put into these U-2 gems and you have your answer! kudos to EVERYONE on EVERY TRACK! A necessary companion piece to the original masterpiece…and just like that one, you can just hit “play’ and get lost in each track. WELL PLAYED.
I think the Depeche Mode cover is AMAZING, but then again I’m biased for all things DM :)
