British punk legends The Damned — still featuring founding members Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible — are set to embark on a 35th anniversary tour of the U.S. and U.K. this fall that will find the band performing its 1977 debut Damned Damned Damned and 1980’s The Black Album each night.
Following a spate of European festival appearances this summer, the band — also featuring keyboardist Monty Oxy Moron, bassist Stu West and drummer Pinch — will bring its anniversary trek to the U.S. for nine concerts between Oct. 20 and Nov. 1, followed by an 11-date U.K. run between Nov. 9 and 20 (see full dates below).
On his own website, Captain Sensible recently wrote about the anniversary tour: “Yes, performing Damned Damned Damned and The Black Album, the records that respectively launched punk and goth, will be quite a task as they are as different as chalk and cheese sonically, but it’s something we are very much looking forward to in our 35th anniversary year. Blimey, is it really 35 years? How on earth did that happen?”
For U.S. fans, hopefully this fall’s visit goes better than the Damned’s attempt to play the States in fall 2009; that nine-date trek was canceled the day before it was due to start after the band failed to obtain the necessary visas to enter the country.
