With a second orchestral album due out later this year, Peter Gabriel today announced he’ll bring his New Blood orchestra back to North America this summer for a 12-date tour that’ll see him performing such fan-favorite songs as “Red Rain,” “Don’t Give Up” and “San Jacinto.”
Gabriel mounted a similar tour last year following the release of his orchestral covers album Scratch Your Back, but that trek focused on those covers of songs by the likes of Lou Reed, David Bowie and Radiohead. The new tour — which opens June 10 in Berkeley, Calif., and runs through June 29 in Milwaukee, Wi. (see dates below) — finds Gabriel instead focusing on his own catalog, backed not by a rock band but an orchestra.
According to Gabriel’s announcement, “This tour is an opportunity to experience the reinvention of an iconic song selection — from ‘Red Rain’ to ‘San Jacinto,’ ‘Digging in the Dirt’ to ‘Don’t Give Up’ — before the album release of New Blood later this year.”
