Three weeks ago, fabled drone-rockers Spacemen 3 reunited for a benefit gig in London, and while co-founder/Spiritualized frontman Jason Pierce didn’t participate, the band was filled out with special guests that included My Bloody Valentine recluse Kevin Shields and Pat Fish of The Jazz Butcher.
The band performed July 15 at the Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen to benefit ailing former drummer Natty Brooker, who also designed some of the band’s cover art. Co-founder Pete “Sonic Boom” Kember was joined by ex-bandmates Will Carruthers, Jonny Matlock and Mark Refoy, as well as Jason Holt of Kember’s band Spectrum, Shields and Fish.
The group played “Walkin’ With Jesus,” off 1987’s The Perfect Prescription, which can be seen above with Fish handling vocals, as well as “Revolution” and “Suicide,” off 1989’s Playing With Fire, which can be seen below, plus a closing jam. As for Shields, he kept a typically low profile, and can be seen skulking about in the background.
