For this week’s installment of Vintage Video, we turn the clock back to 1984 to find Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders on the comeback trail, touring in support of their third album Learning to Crawl, recorded and released in the wake of the deaths of founding members James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon.

Simple Minds and The Pretenders — long-running ’80s hitmakers fronted by former husband-and-wife Jim Kerr and Chrissie Hynde, respectively — will pair up next summer for a joint 13-date U.K. tour spotlighting each group’s new work and classic catalog. Iconic Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde will embark on a 25-date North American tour this fall in support of her solo debut Stockholm, hitting U.S. cities from coast to coast after departing from Toronto in late October. And yes, she’s going back to Ohio.

This week’s new releases include the 3CD reissue of the NME’s legendary ‘C86′ compilation cassette, plus the debut solo effort from The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, a new EP from The Mission, 8-Bit Operators’ “chiptune” Depeche Mode tribute and the UK release of Bob Mould’s ‘Beauty & Ruin.’

After 37 years at the helm of The Pretenders, iconic frontwoman Chrissie Hynde is going solo, announcing plans to release her first-ever album under her own name, an 11-song collection called Stockholm that’s due out on June 9 and is preceded by the single “Dark Sunglasses.”

Today’s assortment of online odds and ends includes a great new Smiths/Morrissey visual discography, a podcast of The Fall’s best Peel sessions, the first taste of Peter Buck’s and Steve Wynn’s second Baseball Project album, and an interview with Chrissie Hynde.
