Sonic Youth prepping ’85 live album, unseen ’86 concert film, possible ‘Sister’ reissue

The future of Sonic Youth may remain in doubt following last year’s Kim Gordon-Thurston Moore split, but the band is working on a host of archival projects, according to Lee Ranaldo, including a live album recorded in 1985, a previously unseen 1986 concert film and a possible deluxe-edition reissue of 1987’s ‘Sister.’

With his excellent new solo album ‘Between the Times and the Tides’ now out, Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo today released a second music video to promote the record, this time for the track ‘Angles.’ The clip, directed by Ranaldo’s wife Leah Singer, premiered today at Vulture and can be seen here.

Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo next week will release his new solo album ‘Between the Times and the Tides,’ but he’s decided to preview the record by streaming it online in full beginning this week. The record, a more traditional song-oriented effort than his more experimental solo material, will be released March 20 in the U.S.

Still more than a month before the arrival of his new solo album ‘Between the Times and the Tides,’ Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo has released a video for the record’s first single, ‘Off the Wall.’ The clip, seen above, features live footage of Ranaldo performing in Brooklyn mixed in with other footage shot by Ranaldo himself.
