As we wait for the delayed announcement of Morrissey’s U.S. tour this fall, here’s a little something to bide the time: eight minutes of rare footage from 1991′s ‘Kill Uncle’ tour, showing Moz milling about the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, Calif., and joining his band onstage to soundcheck ‘Sing Your Life.’

This has been online for a couple years now, but it didn’t come to our attention until this week: It’s a clip of future Oscar winner Trent Reznor in one of his mid-’80s, pre-Nine Inch Nails bands performing a fairly faithful cover of the Billy Idol hit ‘Eyes Without a Face.’

For our latest installment of Vintage Video, we bring you a complete mid-’80s concert by Aussie powerhouse Midnight Oil — the landmark ‘Oils on the Water’ concert staged Jan. 13, 1985, on Sydney’s Goat Island as part of Australian radio station Triple J’s 10th anniversary.

Exactly 28 years ago today, The Smiths took the stage for only their third concert — and only their second with the final Morrissey/Johnny Marr/Andy Rourke/Mike Joyce lineup — opening for Factory Records funk band 52nd Street at New Order’s infamous Manchester club The Hacienda.

Peter Buck is no stranger to jumping on stage for a good jam, so when former Hüsker Dü frontman Bob Mould swung through Athens, Ga., on July 25, 1990, in support of ‘Black Sheets of Rain,’ the R.E.M. guitarist pitched in on a crunchy cover of Neil Young’s classic-rock staple ‘Cinnamon Girl.’

For the past day or so, Echo & The Bunnymen’s web folk have been uploading a stream of videos to the band’s YouTube channel, including this 1985 TV appearance that finds the band joined by Billy Bragg to play The Velvet Underground’s ‘Run Run Run.’

Haven’t run across this one before: It’s a promo clip of U2 performing along to what sounds like the album version of ‘New Year’s Day’ in a recording studio, circa 1983. Apparently it was included in a French TV documentary on the band.

Thirty-three years ago tonight, Elvis Costello & The Attractions staged one of the more infamous stunts in ‘Saturday Night Live’ history, pulling the plug on their label-approved song ‘Less Than Zero’ less than 10 seconds in and instead ripping through ‘Radio Radio.’
