‘120 Minutes’ Rewind: John Wesley Harding talks playing solo, lack of dry ice in his show

For this week’s installment of “120 Minutes” Rewind, we offer this segment from the May 13, 1990, installment of the show in which host Dave Kendall interviews singer-songwriter John Wesley Harding. They talk about the origin of his stage name, going on the road with the Ocean Blue and the Mighty Lemon Drops, and his decision to tour solo-acoustic.

Of the touring, Harding — who in recent years, as dropped the stage name in favor of his given name Wesley Stace — notes that while he, at the time, had just recorded an album with members of Elvis Costello’s Attractions as his backing band (1990’s Here Comes the Groom), it’s just much less expensive to tour on his own (“There’s not a lot of dry ice in my show,” he notes).
