The world got its first glimpse today of the much-anticipated Morrissey biopic “England Is Mine” after the release of the trailer for the film that stars Jack Lowden as the young Steven Patrick Morrissey in the lead-up to the formation of The Smiths. The film, directed by Mark Gill, is set to be released in the U.K. on Aug. 4.

New Order had promised that its performances with a 12-member synthesizer ensemble at the Manchester International Festival would not bear much resemblance to the band’s normal live set, and, with tonight’s opening of the 5-concert run, the legendary act delivered on its pledge. The Waterboys today formally announced the release of the band’s new double record, a 23-song collection called Out Of All This Blue that’s due out Sept. 8 and features “echoes of classic R&B, country, soul and funk … underpinned by modern hip-hop production values and rhythms.” See full tracklist here.

For this week’s installment of Vintage Video, we’ll revisit a rarity we first shared about four years ago: The Cure’s lost relic of The Top era, a 90-minute concert film called “Live in Japan” that  documents the band’s Oct. 17, 1984, performance in Tokyo — and which was released the following year on VHS and Betamax in Japan only.

A frequent on-air guest at KEXP, singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock stopped by the radio station’s Seattle studios on May 1 for a half-hour live session and conversation with host John Richards. Joined by Sean Nelson (Harvey Danger, The Long Winters) on backing vocals, Watch the full set here.

Cherry Red Records this August will release a new 3-disc Alien Sex Fiend anthology that traces the goth pioneers’ 35-year history, and which will include five previously unreleased tracks, including two new songs and unissued mixes of “Now I’m Feeling Zombiefied” and “I Walk the Line.” See the full tracklist here.

The Jay Aston-led version of Gene Loves Jezebel — there are two incarnations of the band, each fronted by an Aston twin — is poised to release a new studio album titled Dance Underwater, the first collection of new music from a version of GLJ in 14 years. The first single, “Summertime,” can be streamed here.

Gary Numan is set to release a new studio album titled Savage later this summer, and today he unveiled plans for a 22-date North American tour in support of the record this November and December. Tickets for the shows go on sale this Friday, according to Numan. See full dates here.

David Gedge and the rest of The Wedding Present stopped by the Seattle studios of KEXP in April during the band’s spring U.S. tour in support of their latest album Going, Going…,  and performed a six-song, half-hour set that the radio station has now shared online. Smith and Co.’s first U.S. dates in more than 11 years — has grown to a full week as the band has added two more shows, one on each end, to that mid-September run of concerts.
