The Pixies are ringing in 2014 with another batch of new songs, today releasing a second four-song EP of brand-new material and premiering the video for one of those songs: the rocker “Blue Eyed Hexe,” which the band debuted last September at a warm-up gig that served as the introduction to the now-departed bassist Kim Shattuck.
Like the first new EP the band released last summer, EP2 is available to purchase from the Pixies’ website as a digital download or on limited-edition 10-inch vinyl. In addition to “Blue Eyed Hexe,” it features another new song debuted at the September gig (“Blues and Greens”), plus “Magdelena” and “Snakes.”
The Pixies currently are set to embark on a lengthy North American tour beginning Jan. 15 in Toronto that will see the debut of the band’s second new bassist in six months: Paz Lenchantin, who played in A Perfect Circle and Billy Corgan’s brief post-Smashing Pumpkins outfit Zwan.
The band parted ways with Shattuck in late November following the completion of a European tour.
