Our year-long Best of the ’80s poll continues into July as we serve up 1985, and once again ask Slicing Up Eyeballs’ readers to vote for their favorite albums of that year in our ongoing mission to rank the releases of each year of the decade, concluding with a poll to determine the best records of the entire 1980s.

Depeche Mode on Sunday performed to tens of thousands of fans at Rock Werchter 2013, playing an abbreviated version of its ‘Delta Machine Tour’ set during a nearly 90-minute headlining slot at the festival in Belgium. Watch the full show right here.

This week’s new releases include a brand-new live album from New Order, recorded last year at the UK’s Bestival, a new studio album from Front Line Assembly (‘Echogenetic’), plus a rarities collection from Devo (‘Hardcore’) and vinyl reissues from Nirvana and The Beat.

After missed opportunities at a pair of U.S. shows booked around Coachella this past April, it finally happened: Bernard Sumner joined Johnny Marr on stage in England tonight for a one-song Electronic reunion as the duo performed their 1989 single “Getting Away With It” during the ex-Smiths guitarist’s slot opening for New Order.

Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave featured music from Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Siouxsie and the Bahsees, Magazine, Sad Lovers and Giants, David J, The Sisters of Mercy, Front 242, The Cure, Public Image Ltd., The Glove, A Split-Second and much, much more.

Welcome to the Week in Rock, where we round up all of the headlines posted on this site over the past week. Tears For Fears co-founder Curt Smith this week announced the impending release of Deceptively Heavy, his fourth solo album, and first in five years, as he prepares to return to the studio next week with Roland Orzabal to work on what could become the follow-up to their band’s 2004 reunion album Everybody Loves a Happy Ending.

Peter Hook’s site fac51thehacienda.com has been slowly uploading early ’80s concert footage shot at New Order’s club The Haçienda over the past couple years, and this week added a real gem: four clips of Bauhaus performing at the Manchester club on Aug. 14, 1982, less than a year before the band broke up.

Last week, Fire Records announced a “special ongoing partnership” with New Zealand indie-pop legends The Chills that it headlined “The Past, The Present, The Future.” Now, as bandleader Martin Phillipps celebrates his 50th birthday this week, the label has premiered the band’s first new music in nine years: “Molten Gold.”

A week after teasing fans with the first footage of The Replacements rehearsals now under way in Minneapolis, the ‘Mats today did a bit better, posting to Facebook 19 seconds of Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson ripping through “Favorite Thing.”

New Order next week will commemorate its highly successful reunion, and raise money for charity, with the release of a new 13-track live album recorded at the U.K.’s Bestival last September — and you can now stream the full album below (via The Guardian).
